How to treat your kids like a you've had a lobotomy,
This review is from: How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk (How to Help Your Child) (How to Help Your Child) (Paperback)
Given that this book is highly recommended by mumsnetters and their ilk, I couldn't believe how irritating it was.
First, it's written in American English - make sure you're prepared for this before you buy it. I have never 'hollerred' at my kids, nor have they complained about being "dumb" or wearing "braces".
As for the content of the book - it's incredibly irritating and over-earnest. It advocates that you talk to your children in the kind of robotic un-speak that HR departments recommend for dealing with errant employees. "I hear where you're coming from..."
You'll find more parenting wisdom in Philip Larkin's "This Be The Verse".
Save your money. Or buy my pristine second-hand copy in the Amazon Marketplace.

I'm halfway through but I agree with your review. I can't understand how so many people fall for this.
