An excellent biography,
This review is from: Under the Ivy: The Story of Kate Bush (Hardcover)
I finished this about ten minutes ago and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. It is a very balanced book and although the author is obviously a big fan he is not afraid to voice criticism, but it in a fair and well argued manner. A great many biographies on musicians I have found to be poorly written but this was not one of those. There were many insights into how Kate wrote and recorded her music with many first hand contributions from musicians who worked with her. There have been many misconceptions about Kate, most dreamed up by a desperate press, and it was good to see these firmly put in their place. As a long-time fan it was a real pleasure to read about her in such a positive light and it has made me eager to listen again to some of her old albums in a new light. I was always disappointed by the negative press that was dished out to 'The Dreaming' which I always thought was excellent. Yes, it is very different, not commercial, and all the better for that. What more can you say about 'The Hounds of Love', a truly classic album. Anyway, back to the book! If you are a Kate Bush fan (of course you are or else you wouldn't be reading this!) then buy or borrow it and immerse yourself in a well written book about one of our most unique musicians, one whose music will be played for years to come.
