Wow what a series! I stumbled across this by accident on Amazon a few years ago it looked interesting and so I bought it, needless to say I wasn't disappointed. This is a very well made BBC charting the pivotal moments in the reign of the English Queen Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603).
We can see the evolution of the Queen from naive young women to the old battle and intrigue hardened Queen on her deathbed in the six 90 minute episodes. Each one of these episodes would easily pass as a film in its own right as the episode focuses round a central theme whether that is the Spanish Armada or the Catholic conspiracies against her throne.
Glenda Jackson was born for the role of Elizabeth and in my opinion this she presents the best depiction of the monarch in televison and film up to this point.
If you like history and or drama this is for you easily as compelling and as good as 'I Claudius' and is a direct sequel to 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII'.
In short a must buy!
- The Lions Cub. - The Marriage Game. - Shadow in the Sun. - Horrible Conspiracies. - The Enterprise of England. - Sweet England's Pride.
