The first unit purchased would only play CDs so I returned it to Amazon and the replacement arrived very promptly. I am very pleased with the picture quality on a HD TV using the HDMI connection. It is a big improvement in all respects on my Pioneer using RGB. The upscaling produces near Blu-ray quality from good DVD recordings. The USB input produces excellent pictures from JPEG images from a flash drive or my USB hard drive (1TB Freecom) but will not play MVI clips. It also cannot read files from my Canon IXUS camera directly.
I have converted it to multi-region without any trouble thanks to this information I obtained on the web.
1. Turn player on with without disc in tray. 2. Wait until "no disc" appears on TV screen 3. Press "repeat" (not "repeat A-B"!) on remote. 4. Press in sequence the following keys: (For Region 2 players only): FF, FR, FF, UP, DOWN
Number "0" must appear in upper left corner of TV screen, that means that sequence was successful and player is now region free. If it does not appear repeat from beginning.
After successful sequence turn player off and on again to check.
