Whilst a lot of books exist about learning how to paint they often do not go in depth enough for the student to get confident with blending colours and getting the correct shades. I recommend that The Art of Colour Mixing is bought in conjunction with a book on HOW to paint though as issues such as getting different textures, using different brushes and how to paint a subject are not discussed here. This book purely is the perfect reference for someone who is just looking how to create different colours and shades of colours with Watercolour, Acrylic & Oil paints. A page may be dedicated to show the different shades of colour and what ratio of colour 1 paint to colour 2 paint is required to get that shade...1:2 for example. It builds on this logic and uses photographs such as a basket of fruit and then details of how to get the correct shade of yellow for a banana, the correct shade of yellow for a lemon or the correct shades of green for a lime as opposed to an apple etc.
