Bye Bye DVD copy of Ben Hur, you served me well.,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Ben-Hur - 3-Disc Edition [Blu-ray] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
If you're well into Blu ray, then all your expectations of this release will not disappoint.
If you're new to Blu ray and thinking about, and still unsure about how best to take advantage of your new investment and own the DVD copy of this film, then let me tell you, this release has been given a lot of TLC, newly restored and remastered from the original 65mm negative, then remastered to 1080p. Comparing Ben Hur on Blu ray to DVD is like comparing the DVD to VHS, the picture is outstanding.
Then there are the extras including the 1925 silent version on Disc 3, not seen it yet so unable to comment. I'm not expecting Metropolis type restoration for the 1925 silent film, so I won't be disappointed when I get round to having a butchers.
Buy this for the spectacular Blu ray version of Ben Hur, and you'll not be disappointed, the added 1925 film plus documentaries are just a bonus in my opinion.
********* UPDATE *********
The 1925 Silent version has been fully restored, is 2 Hours 23 Minutes in duration, and looks absolutely stunning, just like Metropolis. Is well worth watching ;-)

Is the 1925 silent version also on a blu-ray disc? The American edition has it on a regular dvd. cheers, Larry

Larry, if you look at the main photographs of the product, someone has uploaded a photo of disc 2 and 3. If you look carefully, you'll notice disc 3 has the Blu ray mark on it.
Hope this helps

Hello Mr. Aris;
Thanks very much for clarifying this for me. The American version ALSO has the blu-ray logo on it, but only the menu is in blu-ray, the 1925 movie is not.

I just double checked for you. When you place a disc into my player, it ether comes up as a Blu ray or DVD on the screen. The Ben-Hur Disc 3 comes up as a Blu ray, which means the 1925 silent film is on a Blu ray disc.
If I could, I would record the whole procedure of placing the disc into the tray, and record what comes up on screen as the disc is read and loaded.
I can guarantee that disc 3 is 100% Blu ray, not DVD.
I just checked the disc in my up scaling DVD player, it did not want to load.
Disc is definitely Blu ray. Have you tried this over there?

Hey, thanks for the confirmation about the quality of the 1925 version!!
Believe that I got that version on the collector DVDs but I still haven't seen it. I will watch the blu-ray soon I hope :-)
