Roxio Easy LP to MP3 - Works Like A Dream,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Roxio Easy LP to MP3 (PC CD) (CD-ROM)
Roxio Easy LP to MP3 is superb - If I could award 6 stars I would! Fairly straightforward to convert your valued collection of LPs and Cassettes (or other analogue audio) to MP3 (or WMA or WAV), and to burn a CD or/and create a disc image so that you can burn a CD subsequently. Takes quite a bit more time to adjust (delete or add) the automatic breaks between songs, and to add all the track information. The sound quality of the digitally encoded signal is terrific (when converted back to analogue of course). As regards the various clean up options, I avoid the Declicker and Decrackler, and only use the Denoiser Threshold and Noise Intensity settings sparingly. It is important to select the 'Difference' and 'Bypass' to check that the 'noise' being removed does not include some of the signal (the song); otherwise the end result will not sound quite as authentic as the original. The least amount of filtering works best for me, this might leave it in a bit of hiss or noise .... but it keeps the original atmosphere of the song. Others might wish to remove as much hiss and noise as possible.
As opposed to selecting declicker (which might alter the overall sound), it is possible to zoom in on the waveform to target a very prominant click or series of clicks (i.e. a scratch). You can then cut out the (very tiny) section of song to remove each click. You need to ensure that the 'spliced' waveform joins up (no abrupt joints). Editing out the click/s can be achieved with no noticeable affect to the song or the tempo provided that the clicks are very short lived. This technique is only for exceptional cases as it can take a while to get right (there is an undo option)!
I initially had a problem with mains hum on the encoded signal. I resolved this by using the PC on battery power only while carrying out the first stage of the encoding process. However most recent use has not encounterd the hum even when the PC is powered from the mains.
