The world that we have today has undergone a number of important revolutions in its existence - and no, we speak not of the French, Russian, Cultural or even the Velvet variety.
The authors are obviously writing of the revolutions and innovations that science has brought about to shape the earth - including the creation of an habitable planet in the first instance, right up to the impact on the global environment that humans have wrought - eg. climate change - by way of several important stopping points along the way.
If we are to survive, this book argues, we need to steer a wise course through the inevitable and imminent next revolution that will come about.
Published by The Oxford Universtiy Press, it is considered, brilliantly reseached, well-argued and positively studded with acadmic references. However, as it doesn't particularly try to take the modern pop science approach of easy accessibility, the contents may be seriously too dry for someone expecting that type of work.
This book should possibly carry a caveat: Warning - Contains Some Heavy Science!
