This novel is supposed to mirror the great singer Cecilia Bartoli's research into a largely forgotten Baroque composer. I have enjoyed Donna L:eon's work in the past but this is a thin and even silly piece of plotting which feels as though it was padded out. Unusually for Leon, it's a poor evocation of Venice. But above all the few characters are unbelievable human beings and the dialoguie is accordingl;y weak. Buy Cecilia's CD (Mission) instead- thgat at least is the real deal.
