Customer Review

on 1 December 2013
The book arrived yesterday, and my first thought on waking this morning was - "has anyone else spotted that this was not written by Terry". Reading many of the reviews here, I'm far from alone in my reactions to "Raising Steam".

If you know (and love) an author's output, it has a particular 'sound', just as the voices belonging to great singers are entirely unique. This book does not 'sound' like Terry in the slightest. His work in the past has - quite rightly - been compared to that of P.G.Wodehouse. This book is so terribly, terribly written that it cannot have come from Terry himself.

What has happened to Terry is incredibly sad, and he has faced and is facing it with a courage and openness that should inspire us all. However for those around him - his publishers, his family and friends - to allow work of this standard to be released in his name is a travesty. It's heartbreaking, because never again will I be excited at the prospect of a new Discworld book.
