An excellent, brief, yet thorough biography.,
This review is from: Travel with John Blanchard: Guernseys Evangelist, Author and Christian Apologist (Day One Travel Guides) (Paperback)
Over the last number of the years, John Blanchard has written much. However, there seems to have been very little written about the man himself. Here then is a short book giving a biographical sketch of the popular Christian preacher, author and apologist. The book takes us through Blanchard's early years on Guernsey and his time as a war evacuee on the Scottish island of Islay. We then see his ministry develop from his conversion, to his beginnings as a preacher, a reader in the Church of England, and his time working for different groups such as Young Life and Christian Ministries. Trips to foreign lands are described as are his early writing ventures, (e.g. Read Mark, Learn and Right with God). Finally, we are taken up to his ministry of defending the faith in response to the rise of atheism and agnosticism. Along the way we get to know something of the man himself, such as his dry sense of humour and his love of golf.
This book is part of the Day One Travel Guide series, and therefore, in addition to the biographical sketch, it contains lots of additional information. There are notes concerning places of interest to visit, contact addresses and web-sites. There are also many colour photos, along with maps and travel guides, for anyone interested in following in Blanchard's footsteps! The book gives a fairly enlightening biography and at the end, it gives us a summary of Blanchard's life (so far) and a list of his writings from down through the years.
The author Brian Edwards knows his subject on a personal level. He gives us a biography, which has been well researched and is written in a very clear and simple fashion.
