This review is from: "Titanic": The Long Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Diane Hoh hit all the right targets with this book. What happens:
17 year-old Elizabeth Farr is a spoiled, wealthy girl, who is expected by her parents to go through a debut and then marry a banker, who is a "decent sort but missing a spine." on the Titanic, she meets Max Whittaker who is a poor artist, that got a 1st class ticket thanks to his grandmother. Kathleen(Katie) Hanrahan is a 16 year-old Irish girl who is immigrating to America to become a singer. Traveling with her are 2 brothers, Steady and dependable Brian Kelleher, who is going to Wisconsin to farm and his younger, attractive brother Patrick(Paddy), who is going to New York to be a writer. On the trip, Elizabeth tries to get her parents to change their minds and let her go to Vasser College. Max understands her and helps her, and in the process, discover their feelings for eachother. Meanwhile in 3rd class, Kathleen also discovers unknown feelings for Paddy, even though she knows how many broken hearts Paddy had left back home. Paddy thinks Katie really loves Brian, who happens to meet a Swedish girl himself. But Katie knows she truely loves Paddy.
When the iceberg hits, all 5 of the chracters' lives are put on the line. Elizabeth can't bear to leave both her father and Max behind on the sinking ship, and Katie finally convinces Paddy that she loves him. Who will survive? All I'm saying is, I'm not telling!
