5g Band Failed, Poor Overall Performance & Shocking Documentation
, 15 Dec. 2013
This review is from: ASUS RP-N53 Dual-Band Wirless-N600 Range Extender (IEEE802.11 a/b/g/n) with Signal Indicator and One-Touch Blue LED Light (Accessory)
From the outset I was disappointed by the overall performance on both frequencies - limited range and frequent dropouts. After a week the 5g band failed to sync. Despite numerous attempts to re-sync using both WPS and the GUI was unable to sync 5g band although GUI was showing it available it would not sync.
The documentation provided is awful. You get a multi-language quick set-up guide which is a 4" x 2" booklet with only a few pages in each language - the problem is that it it's so small you cannot read the screen images. Don't bother going to their website to look for better documentation - it's the same unreadable doc -
Came across an article on internet which advised that 5g failure had been fixed by a firmware upgrade - downloaded latest firmware from ASUS website. Despite numerous attempts to upgrade firmware (each attempt failed due to sys error) gave up and sent device back to Amazon for a refund.
I consider myself a techie and it beat me. My advice on basis of my experience is don't buy this device.
