A good read, despite some of the predictable plot twists. Perhaps the author takes too long setting the story up. The style of having a different character narrate each chapter is effective, though towards the end I felt the different narrative voices started to sound like one character. Time and place is evoked well. Prejudices run deep here and are not just relagated to colour or sex. Each of these people is prejudiced about something or someone. I also felt the ending didn't work, far too preachy. The issues and ideas the author had, were expressed eloquently enough in the plot and didn't need to be described so explicitly in the last chapter. I would rather have had the fate of that particular character left to my imagination.
