Possibly the best baking book on the shelves today. Starting with a very informative section on 'getting started with bread' which is a mix of advice and instruction with lots of useful photographs, the book continues with 6 sections: basic breads; flavoured breads; sourdough; croissants, Danish & brioche; biscuits, puddings & cakes; tarts & pies. There is a wide range of recipes, plenty of photographs of how the finished bake should look and lots of tips scattered throughout.
This is a book for anyone interested in baking, whether a complete novice or seasoned expert. Paul Hollywood, from The Great British Bake-off TV series, knows his stuff, and his years of experience show both in the recipes and the advice he provides throughout. My favourite recipes include almond croissants (with real frangipane), foccacia, apple brioche, Moroccan pasties, rosemary and lemon sourdough, hot cross buns, Caribbean cake and Buche de Noel (a kind of rich, gooey, chocolatey roulade). I have already tried the apple strudel recipe and not only was it easier to make than I thought, it tasted divine! Highly recommended
