This review is from: I am the Cheese (Puffin Teenage Fiction) (Paperback)
I am the Cheese was written by Robert Cormier who has also written books such as "The Chocolate War", "Fade" and "Tenderness". The book was interesting to read but the weird scenarios and outcome was not worth the read.
The novel is about a boy who has during the course of his life been faced with doubting his own identity. Paul Delmonte, who until the end believes that he is Adam Farmer has been in hiding all his life with even realizing it.
The book is written in three narratives, each of which is brought together to created the final dramatic ending. The first narrative is of Adam riding his bike to see his father in hospital, the second is of Adam being interrogated and the third is Adam recalling his past.
The conclusion to the novel is very strange and complicated. Personally I thought that the book was very bad. The story line was often lost in trying to create another picture, and even the storyline that was meant to be portrayed was very poor finished by a equally poor finish. Jamie Chivers
