The first console I owned was a Master System 2 and boy have we come a long way since then. The leap from Alex the kid to Killzone shadow fall in the space of 25 years is absolutely amazing! I remember when the Nintendo 64 came out like it was yesterday and the graphics was blowing peoples minds and it quickly became a must own console. Imagine how we would have reacted back then if someone showed us the future of games, it would have seemed science fiction to our 90s minds. The evolution of online gaming is also interesting. Sega tried it first with the Dreamcast and were midly succesful but they were ahead of there time as it wasnt untill the introduction of Broadband and Wi Fi until this was fully realised.
As you may have guessed I have owned every major console of the past 20 years and this is the best console I have owned to date. It is simple to set up, the UI is easy to navigate, and the ability to jump in and out of games while watching something else in mere seconds is almost revolutionary. It's a simple conceit but incredibly effective! But what is really innovative about these next gen consoles though is the share button on the controller that enables us gamers to share any achievements we gain via a screen shot or gameplay footage. This can be uploaded on our profile page and adds a deeper level of interaction between gamers never before experienced. Furthermore the ability to stream live gamplay via the Twitch or Ustream services provides experienced gamers the option to show off their skills. All of this brings the gaming community together in a way never experienced before.
It is these functions and the graphic capabilities that really make these consoles stand out from its predecessers. The technology has just been developed and it will take developers a number of years before we really see the impact of next generation visuals and capabilities but what we have for now is an insight into the potential that these machines have. The games I have played so far look far smoother, detailed, and more realistic than anything I have played previously. As mentioned this will improve in time as developers learn the tools of the kit.
So is it worth getting one now? Most definately it is! moreover if you get the console now you will have the momentum to gain a head start and build your game collection early. A big game library is what the new consoles lack but again over time many games will be released and it is useful to start your game library early. The ps store will also gain more content over time too. This gamer just cant wait to play all of the upcoming games in this exciting new era of gaming! The future of gaming has arrived so let the games begin!
