I love the Disco Discharge series. I've bought them all so far. I just noticed Amazon's track list is wrong for this one, so it gave me an excuse to add a corrected track list and add a few notes. Here are just a few things that instantly spring to mind...
I have Average White Band "Let's Go Round Again" on 7 other compilations and a CD single. I thought I had the full 12" version until this compilation alerted me to the fact that the full version was 6:25. The CD single and most other compilations edited the track to 5:25. So, I'm very pleased to get this. It is the best version. Fantastic to see Feel "I'd Like To" here, which is a great track from 1982 and sounds like a Darryl Payne production although it isn't. I have it on 12", but it's great to now have it on CD. Also the full Francois Kevorkian remixed 12" versions of D Train's "Keep On" and Nick Straker's "Straight Ahead" are most welcome. The latter sounds so much better on CD.
I was also especially pleased to get the Illusion Orchestra's "Autumn Leaves" on CD. It's produced by Jolley & Swain, the guys who produced the 80's group, Imagination (the Illusion reference no doubt comes from their hit "Just An Illusion") and is a lovely Shakatak-style piano-based instrumental with that infectious Imagination groove.
People who buy the Disco Discharge series are also likely to buy similar compilations such as Ben Liebrand's "Grand 12-Inches" series. I do find it a shame that disc space is taken up with tracks that are duplicated between the two (Vin Zee & Alisha were both on the previous year's "Grand 12-Inches 6") when it could be used for those tracks that have not yet appeared on CD or have so long ago that the CD's are long out of print. But having said that, on the whole these CD's are chock full of great tracks and the whole series represents exceptional value for money. There are a few here that don't float my boat but more than half the tracks are truly fantastic and the ones I don't like are mostly considered classics by other people.
