First du Maurier I haven't bothered to finish,

Daphne du Maurier was a writer of genius, but this book does not demonstrate that. AS a thriller it is plodding. As a character-driven piece it also fails, with cardboard cut-outs of rogues and put-upon women.
Not in the same class as Rebecca, House on the Strand, The Scapegoat or The Parasites.
Fortunately, it is a relatively early book and there is plenty more good stuff by her...
