Frank Strozier's little-known gem from 1959/60.,
This review is from: Fantastic Frank Strozier (Audio CD)
The Memphis-born alto saxophonist, Frank Strozier, teamed up with the great trumpeter, Booker Little and Miles Davis's rhythm section of Wynton Kelly(piano), Paul Chambers(bass) & Jimmy Cobb(drums) for these excellent sessions recorded in December 1959 & February 1960.
The eleven enjoyable tracks include one alternative take('Off Shore') and the high points are Strozier's 'A Starling's Theme' & Little's 'Waltz of the Demons'.
With over 70 minutes of impressive playing from Frank Strozier's quintet this is an exhilarating hard bop album that deserves to be better known.
