2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth an upgrade, 28 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Kindle Touch 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Touch Screen Display, 3G Works Globally (Electronics)
I will be forever grateful to my Kindle Keyboard 3G as it reintroduced me into the world of reading. Therefore, I was really looking forward to receiving the upgraded Kindle Touch. There are, however, some really disappointing features that have left me feeling somewhat let down by the product. The most annoying one is the search engine. Whereas the keyboard version lets you look things up with wikipedia and google directly from the book that you are reading, the touch version only offers wikipedia as a search tool. Also, the keyboard version is designed so you can use both hands when going backwards and forwards when reading a book, but the touch version is set up so you can only go back a page with your left hand. If you want to go the end of a chapter to see how much you have left to read and then travel back to the previous point that you were reading from, you only need to press two buttons with the keyboard version but the touch takes three actions (not a big deal I know but annoying when it is and upgrade). Finally there is the cover with a built in light. Although it is not strictly a part of the Kindle Touch, it is an essential addition. For some unknown reason they have designed cover with a light that shines directly into your face!

If none of these things bother you, then it is definitely worth it as an upgrade. It is more compact, the touch screen is intuitive and the dictionary format is much more attractive. For me, however, it wasn't worth it so I sent it back.

Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Touch Screen Display
I was thinking about getting a new Touch Kindle and passing my Keyboard model onto a family member but after reading this I decided that it wasn't a good idea I like the manual buttons and though I use an iPad I don't want EVERYTHING on a gadget to be touch The keyboard suits me I like Collections as well and understand it isn't as easy to arrange all your books on the new touch so I'll stick with my much loved Kindle 2 keyboard

I've got a keyboard Kindle, but as a bit of a gadget lover I was sort of eyeballing the Touch as an upgrade. Based on your review I think I'll just stick to what I've got. It may not be the newest model, but it works for me!

the Touch is hardly an upgrade from the keyboard, loosing the keyboard is clearly a downgrade if anything, I find it strange you were willing to loose the keyboard and still think you would be getting an upgrade! the main benefit of the Touch is the touch screen, so if you think the Touch has failed to be an upgrade just because of the search function etc then you were expecting too much, surely the keyboard is far easier to use when searching, then the virtual keyboard on the Touch.

The Touch was never sold as an upgrade to the keyboard, just different, you may not prefer it but thats different to saying it was an upgrade and failed.

I agree I dropped my kindle keyboard and cannot find anywhere to get a new screen fitted at a reasonable price so opted for the paperwhite which is very good but if I am honest preferred the keyboard.
