As a small business owner I have always found the issue of when to get an accountant to be a real mystery. How big do I get before I employ a professional? Well professionals cost a lot of money and yet in the long run could save money ... the internal argument went on and on in like manner and over the years I stuck to paper and pen accounts and best guessed everything I wasn't certain of, in the process I know I gave the tax man much more than I should have, and so it went on. I could have used excel but that seemed a mystery to me, until last year when I used it and found it was easy enough for the basic recording of expenses, but it did not have intuitive tools that directly related to keeping accounts for my business. Anyway then I discovered this Sage package, and in trepidation I sent for it. I put off going online to sign up but once I did it was so easy to set the whole thing up and in moments I was recording my bank balance and only moments later creating personalised invoices for my customers that from within the package I could email or print and send to the companies or individuals concerned. Once created these then got automatically tracked for due dates and the bank balance changed automatically to reflect this. I can generate reports to show how well my business is doing - or not - and best of all I can add an accountant to whom I can send all of my accountas automatically. From my simple enthusiasm I now know that you will share how ignorant I am of all things accounts related, but if you are like me and want to start curing that very ignorance, this is a very good package to start with. If you are more knowlegable then you would do well to read another review. The monthly cost is minor if you are looking for a means of organising your accounts and in truth because it's an online package you don't have storage to consider (paper or virtual).
The only query I might have is the security of information that is held by Sage, but I feel fairly confident that between our two systmes, remote and local we should be okay.
