5.0 out of 5 stars Double Whammy, 5 July 2012
This review is from: The Spotlight Kid/Clear Spot (Audio CD)
A great pairing of two classic albums by Captain Beefheart. If you love the blues, you'll love this CD. The Captain and his Magic Band, cut and paste a mean acid groove and re-invent the blues like you have never and probably will ever hear the likes of again. It's mean, lean and most of all it's fun! Own this music now!

Is this really a 2006 production of this album, the sound quality is really bad...I've got my suspicions, can you verify this, as I may have to replace it.

Regards

I`ve got it too, same one you have. Nothing wrong with the sound my friend, but Spotlight Kid always had a `muddy` feel to it. For me it goes with the swampy blues feel of the music. As for Clear Spot, it was always a well-recorded record. Still is to my ears.

Got both albums on vinyl back in the 80's. Loved them both - I'd never heard anything like his voice before.
They're pretty knackered with static and crackles now so I bought the CD pairing a few years ago. I was quite disappointed in how flat Spotlight Kid sounded. No separation of sound. At the time I remember getting the vinyl album out and desperately trying to clean it with a micro-fibre cloth.
The transfer on Clear Spot isn't too bad, though.

Out next month: Sun Zoom Spark, a 4-CD set comprising these two, plus the (till now) almost impossible to get Lick My Decals Off Baby, plus a disc of extras. All remastered. I've pre-ordered my copy already! With any luck The Spotlight Kid will sound clearer this time around.
