Excellent, crfeepy flick - suspense over gore,
This review is from: Witchboard [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
Don't get me wrong, I love blood and guts but every once in a while it's nice for a change, and Witchboard fits the bill perfectly. Such is the strength of the story that it can be made on a teeny budget and outstrip far bigger budget films - and it did back in the day too.
I won't spoil it too much but Brandon, ex boyfriend of Linda, brings a ouija board to a party and contacts a little boy who died many years ago. He also explains that he and the little boy have a secret signal so that he knows it's the boy he is talking to and not an imposter. He also says never to use the board alone.
Jim, Linda's current boyfriend, mocks the ouija board, the spirit leaves and this just antagonises their hatred of one another. The party ends and Brandon leaves, forgetting his ouija board.
Linda starts to use it to contact the boy. Alone. And she forgets to look out for the special signal. She makes contact - but not with the boy. But someone....evil.
And I won't tell anymore! Just watch it. If you remember the 80's - you'll love the retro feel and be whisked back to your youth. If you don't then watch how films used to be made before ultra fast cuts and fake looking cgi. And if you want a spine tingler, enjoy!
