This review is from: Jacob's Ladder (Stone & Randall Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
I found Mr Ellis a few days ago. The Parish & Richards books took a couple of days to demolish, and I was disappointed that Stone & Randall are as yet alone with Jacob's ladder. There are some recurring themes in the books, but he writes with intelligence and humour and knowledge, so I learn and laugh and am intrigued. Some of the dialogue is superb at conveying a subtext which has meaning quite outside the words. The characters are complex, and just about everybody has a dark side, which seems right. The crime is dirty and greedy and repulsive. The environment is grubby and uncompromising. Some things might have been more restrained, but am looking forward to the next in this series.
