Clarification. What this box set actually DOES and DOES NOT contain! Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray],
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series [Blu-ray] [2004-2009][Region Free] (Blu-ray)
As some of you may or may not know; there is so much Battlestar Galactica related content out there in the form of spin-off series, additional minisodes, TV movies and other secondary content. When I was trying to purchase the Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] for myself I was having trouble actually finding out what this box set contains, especially since Amazon combines reviews of both DVDs and Blu-Rays; the former supposedly not including alot of that secondary content and the latter supposedly including all of it. As well as various people saying this and that and other people saying the oppposite of this and that, I was getting rather confused. I never actually found out for sure what this box-set included so I caved and just bought it for myself regardless.
The sole purpose of my review is to have one dedicated space in outlining what this box set actually does and does not contain!
The Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] CONTAINS:
- Battlestar Galactica (2003) (TV-Mini-Series)
- Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009) (the Main TV Series, All Seasons [1,2,3,4 and The Final Season]
- ALL unaired extended episodes of specific episodes from the Main TV series (as well as the original broadcast versions)
- RAZOR (TV Movie) (BOTH the original broadcast version and the unrated extended version)
- Razor Flashbacks (Minisodes x7)
- The Resistance (Webisdoes x9)
- I won't list the special features as they are on the Amazon product page, but I will add that there are also audio commentaries for each extended episode!
The Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] DOES NOT CONTAIN:
- The Plan (TV Movie)
- The Face of the Enemy (Webisodes x10)
- Blood & Chrome (a seperate spin-off prequel series that shouldn't be expected to be included in this box set. Can be purchased seperately)
- Caprica (another seperate spin-off prequel series that shouldn't be expected to be included in this box set. Can be purchased seperately)
So the only content that should've really been included in this box set is 'The Plan' and 'The Face of the Enemy' as they are both set within the same timeline of the main series. Quite frankly I wouldn't allow their absence to prevent you from purchasing this set, especially at the now current bargain price of £29.99! I believe The Face of the Enemy wasn't included because of licensing issues or something or other, but they can be viewed online if you know where to look (p.s they're not that good!) and The Plan [Blu-Ray] can be purchased on Amazon for a cheap price if you desperately want it (p.s it's not that good either :) )
At the end of the day, all of the essential content is included in this box set!
Conclusion. If you are a fan of Battlestar Galactica and simply want to own the fantastic show on Blu-Ray then get this product...NOW! If you are someone who hasn't seen the show before and are interested in it then get this product...NOW! Neither of you will be dissapointed. Hope this helps.

Thanks for clearing this up! I'd been looking at the older version of this box set in the Cylon shaped tin as there are more detailed product descriptions out there listing all the extras, but it's pricey and this seems to have most of the content. Good stuff!

You're quite welcome. I've noticed that my review is coming up on the product page for the Cylon shaped tin DVD box set for some reason. Just to clarify that my review specifically concerns the Blu-Ray box set, just in case. I have made sure i'm referring to that particular box set in my review several times just so as to not cause any confusion however. But you can never be too careful.

Thanks for that, I've not seen the show before but would like too... Just purchased this bluray box set but it seems a compete mess with the webisodes, mini series, spin off's etc. any pointers on which 'order' to actually watch them in? I've yet to receive the box set so it may well be in order of viewing anyway, so if it is then that's fine. If not...some guidance will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello. This is the guide I myself followed when watching through this box set for the first time. It's very thorough http://thunderpeel2001.blogspot.co.uk/201
However there is only one thing I disagree with in that guide. He recommends you watch RAZOR (the TV movie) after you have finished Season 2 of the main TV series and then again after Season 3. Just watch it after you have finished season 3 as that was when the film was released. There's no need to watch it twice. This also concerns the Razor flashbacks minisodes. Also make sure that you watch the extended versions of everything that has the option. There is a booklet inclued in this box set which states which of the episodes also have the extended versions and what disc those extended versions are on. I highly recommend following the booklet as you watch through this box set, as well as following the above viewing order guide.

One other question...from those that are missing in the blu ray box set I.e. The Plan for instance are these necessary? Having seen the series yourself now.. Are any of the missing content required? If so, I'll try and source these elsewhere (wink wink)

I ended up purchashing The Plan seperately. It's pretty mediocre and it isn't something i'd consider to be essential content. It is quite cool to see certain events already seen in the main series from the Cylon's perspective though. But it isn't anything important overall and I would say only get it if you are a completionist....the production of the film is really rather poor. The Face of the Enemy webisodes are on youtube and again are really nothing important overall. If you are a completionist then watch them for that sake. You're not missing out on much otherwise. The spin-off series Blood and Chrome I also ended up purchasing seperately. I found it quite enjoyable actually, but as I said in my review that shouldn't be expected to be included in this box set as it's a spin-off series set in a much earler timeline (the first Cylon-War, decades before the main series' period). I would recommend getting Blood and Chrome if you are a fan of the BSG universe. I've not seen Caprica and have no strong desire to.

Is the mini series in its original two-part presentation or the long winded three hour version that was issued on DVD?
