Great price for Jagwire complete brake cable,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Jagwire Rear Brake Cable Complete with Outer Cable (Sports)
I bought these for £1.88 each delivered mainly for the outer cable as you get almost 2 metres and this was about the cheapest I could get it. The cables were a bonus.
They have now been reduced further to £1.75 which is an absolute bargain - just for the outers.
The ones I got direct from Amazon come packaged in official Jagwire packet. It does not say whether they are stainless or not but I have looked on Jagwire's site and it appears that they only do either galvanized or stainless cables. Both should not rust.
However, these cables and outers are not pre lubed so you will need to lube them up before fitting. You can use WD40 for the outers and I suggest some grease for the cable. Whatever you use to lube your chain will do. I use Finish Line Dry Lube 4oz - or this Finish Line Mountain Bike Wet Chain Lube 4oz / 120ml but this will also be fine Weldtite Grease Tube 40g
They are also not pre stretched, and even pre stretched cables which are considerably more expensive, will need to be pulled through and adjusted after riding for a while. This can be done with the barrel adjusters on your brake levers but the best practice when they first need tightening, and the brakes feel more spongy is to physically pull the cables tight again.
Loses a point because they do not come with a cable end ferrule which is needed when you cut the cable. You can use a dab of superglue or even solder the cable ends to prevent fraying but really you should just use a metal or plastic ferrule.
Apart from that, a bargain price, especially for the outers alone which cost from £2 per metre on their own.
