From the off this looked as if a PS2 game had been put in a PS3 console. The quality of the picture and animation looked two or three years old at best, and probably twice that. No 1080p upscaling to be seen, this was 720p and that flatters it. And the overall design and first impression was of a game from a previous life, never mind generation. I was totally unimpressed.
Then there's the gameplay. OK I am not familiar with wrestling games but I still think it was non-intuitive and for the most part frustrating, as I felt that I was only partly in control of what was going on and I was constantly thinking how dated everything looked. This is non-retro retro gaming IYKWIM. You can make old ideas high-tech but if you have an old idea that looks old too, you have pretty much a non-starter in the competitive world of video gaming. I found it hard to believe the 'Copyright 2009' notice at booting-up time - if it had said 1999 I wouldn't have been surprised.
Also, the classification of 15 seems misplaced. I think that it would be better suited to a novice 7 year old, but of course that wouldn't be PC given the staged violence that is central to its theme. Overall I think this is a dud, a complete trespasser in the contemporary world of video gaming. Even if you are a Wrestlemania addict, give this one a miss. It doesn't satisfy on any level.
