Interesting Look At Bullying And The Consequences Behind It,
This review is from: Mean Creek [DVD] (DVD)
Jacob Aaron Estes's first film is quite a hard hitting look at bullying, and how doing something can lead to you really regretting it. When young Sammy (Rory Culkin) gets beaten up by obese George (Josh Peck) - his brother Rocky (Trevor Morgan) gets rather angry - and without thinking, plans a revenge with his friends, which is pretty much harmless to a point, he wants the boy to get pushed into a creek, while they go away and leave him to run home without clothes. Sounds like the usual prank, but when things get a bit heated in the boat, things don't turn out how the boys wanted, and they have to ask themselves, was it worth it?
This is an interesting film which kept me entertained all the way through, what makes me laugh is I had no intention to watch this, it was on TV after another programme and I just watched passively, but I think I will rent this some time, as it's brilliantly put together, and the questions it asks are quite tough, though it does seem a bit thin on the ground at times, the story really builds up into something.
Worth a look.
