Nearly all of the films that I have watched so far in 2014 are ones that are based on true stories and "The Monuments Men" is another one to add to the list. It tells the story of a group of men who, with World War Two drawing to a close , are tasked with recovering large amounts of art that the Nazis have stolen from the occupied countries and secreted in various locations throughout Germany. These men are motivated by preserving these priceless artifacts in the face of the soon to be defeated Nazis planned destruction of them out of pure spite. George Clooney leads an impressive cast in this movie and the film is mildly interesting , but certainly not compulsive viewing. It is a bit disjointed and at times somewhat dull. However in the round this is a likeable film that tells a tale that most people probably weren't aware of.
