Great films, unbelievably poor box set. AUDIO & IMAGE PROBLEMS STILL PRESENT!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: David Lynch Box Set [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
As David Lynch is among my favourite filmmakers, the treatment this collection has received from Universal is shockingly bad.
Despite what Amazon says here:
1) Wild At Heart is STILL presented in 2.0 PCM, and is STILL the censored US cut (which I already own, and bought this set to replace),
2) Lost Highway is a 1080i transfer, barely even an improvement on the DVD version,
3) Blue Velvet appears to have been artificially "darkened", resulting in weird image artefacts during scenes with low light. It's rather like watching an FMV cutscene from late-90s game. And it ruins a superb film.
Now, there maybe more issues, but I've only had the set for a day and checked for things I was already aware of. FWWM is actually a great transfer, as is Dune (the best transfer here, despite being the worst film). But there's nothing on a par with Studio Canal's excellent issues of The Elephant Man or Mulholland Drive, or Optimum's Inland Empire.
And so, I shall be returning this to Amazon. They are falsely claiming the previous faults have been fixed, and they clearly have not!
