When the great pop-rock albums are talked about, you normally hear the same names. I rarely hear the name 'Rumours' and I fail to understand why. Albums like 'Pet Sounds' and 'Sgt. Peppers' are famous, and it's easy to see why when you listen to them. As I listen to this album 5 years after buying it i think, this isn't just as good as the likes of 'Highway 61'. In my opinion, it's better.
You've got everything here. Highlights include 'Second Hand News', a bouncy, uplifting and wonderfully catchy pop song; 'Songbird', a beautiful, haunting piano ballad; atmospheric rocker 'The Chain', and moody, thrillingly climatic closer 'Gold Dust Woman'. Not that there's any filler - it feels like the album is a whole package to the extent that I rarely listen to any of the songs on their own.
Before I bought this, only three albums sprang to mind when people asked about my favourite. They were 'Ramones', 'London Calling' and 'Ziggy Stardust'. These days I only have one.
