This review is from: Bonita Avenue (Royal Trade Paperback) (Paperback)
This is an inventive and intricately plotted novel, with several narrative voices and a multiplicity of events in each of them. It's all been worked through most impressively, and every chapter is full of surprises. The plot concerns a somewhat dysfunctional Dutch family, and its relations particularly with a potential son-in-law, but actually failed boyfriend of one of the family's daughters.
That said, eventually I found that the more I read, the less I actually cared about what was going to happen next - none of the characters is all that engaging, and this is more a tour de force of imagination and plotting, rather than a deeply felt exploration of any aspect of human nature.
