A wonderful exposition of Roy Darlington's engineering philosophy and extreme attention to detail, which kept Lancasters flying in the war. I would fly in one of his.
Very good on manufacturing detail, materials, friction and fits of Stirling engines. Excellent drawings of the advanced design they detail at the end. Less good on the design aspects, thermodynamics, dead space, etc.
As a lathe-owner but non-engineer, I found there to still be a considerable gap between the simplest design he presents and my abilities, but that is largely my fault, and he has inspired me to bridge that gap.
