Elric! the second,
This review is from: Stormbringer: Dark Fantasy Roleplaying (Stormbringer Roleplaying Game, 2115) (Paperback)
Stormbringer 1st edition, when first launched was a superb game with a couple of floors, specifically while hugely atmospheric the character generation system which had racial stat modifiers, classes and a very powerful magic system was apt to create some very powerful characters and some very weak ones which while possibly realistic does not make a balanced party. Ultimately of course most referees found ways round this problem without losing the atmosphere of the game, fear of demons and so on. A 4th edition further modified the magic rules and made a few more tweaks
Then along came the 5th Edition called Elric! (The exclamation mark is because there is already an Elric game!)and that has now been followed by this 6th edition.
The whole game has now been sanitised! 3D6 replaced by 2D6+6 so everyone is less diverse, removal of stat modifiers, so everyone is less diverse, all racial modifiers removed so everyone is less diverse, occupations instead of character classes which, you guessed it narrow any diversity.
Basically it makes no difference what you statistics are, where you come from or what your occupation is, from Argimilian Farmer to Pan Tangese Priest you can all have 100%+ on your weapon skills and the ability to use a bland form of runequest battle magic from the outset. Nobody is scared of demons because they all have sorcery themselves.
Well it's certainly fair but all the character has gone from the game. 1st Edition with it resolvable flaws was much better.
