History and Mystery,
This review is from: The Inheritor's Powder: A Cautionary Tale of Poison, Betrayal and Greed (Hardcover)
'The Inheritor's Powder', a clearly and beautifully written book about murder by arsenic poisoning, gives a fascinating insight into the early days of forensic medicine and toxicology as well as an inadequate judiciary system and unregulated policing (for example, we learn of a policeman given the responsibility of delivering evidence in the form of packets of arsenic, going on a pub crawl on the way, thereby all but destroying it). The book concentrates on one particularly notorious murder case of the early 19th century, although other cases are also touched upon. It reads rather like a murder mystery and is quite a page-turner. What is more, you can look forward to a surprise ending.
