A magnificent, moody and haunting story told with the aplomb and verve we have come to expect from Janine. Courage is the word that comes to my mind. Beauty, too, as my fellow reader has noted. Having read and enjoyed Janine's earlier books I came to this expecting much and was not disappointed. As usual her wit and modesty shine through. For a young woman such as her to place herself in harm's way in areas where women are so often maltreated and used as objects is no mean feat. For Janine to come through such experiences unscarred mentally is worthy of note. She is a true heroine in every sense. My only complaint is the slight index and absence of strong photographs. With them the book would have been more perfect than it already is. As it is it is a remarkable book deserving of prizes.
