"Flip Your Wig" is the Huskers last album for the SST label and marks a dramatic leap forward in the bands sound firmly away from any last traces of hardcore punk into the nucleus of what was to become indie or college rock. The overall sound of the album is bigger and certainly more commercial than their previous records with a vocal mix high enough above the roar of guitar to showcase the bands harmonies. The stand out track on the album is Mould's "Makes No Sense At All" a powerpop/punk classic single which marked a new phase in the bands career moving towards a more radio friendly sound. Grant Hart also begins to emerge from Mould's shadow with five impressive tunes, including "Green Eyes" which remains one of his best and a missed opportunity as a second single. "Flip Your Wig" is a classic album and the perfect introduction to the band.
