I bought this for the scenes shot in Glasgow. It's strange knowing which bits of street were used, and George Square itself, for the opening scenes and how they move to the USA after these. Yes, Glasgow is doubling for the USA but it's really quite bizarre!
The movie? It's convinced me that Marc Foster is a second unit director and shouldn't be given the lead again. Action scenes are handled reasonably well but not the close up dialogues. Much like Quantum of Solace. Fast cutting action scenes simply dilutes the impact of that scene as you're interpreting the new shot more than the impact of the scene. Alfonso Cuaron is superb at the long single shots and while Gravity is his latest I'd suggest looking at Children of Men to see how focusing on one actor for a period can be more effective.
Overall it's ok but not a classic zombie film. Nothing really stood out like 28 Days Later did, and given the choice I'd opt for the Danny Boyle film easily. Boyle, with a severely limited budget, managed to reinvigorate the genre.
