You should know: I'm a 24 year old male, enjoy comedies and love a bit of immaturity. However...
I didn't have high hopes for this to begin with as we all know that most sequels fail to live up to their expectations - Even allowing for that I was left really disappointed! The first half an hour or so did produce 5 or 6 genuine laughs, but the remainder of the film let it down terribly! It smacked of desperation and was trying way too hard to force the jokes. Kristen Wiig was painfully unfunny in her role as Brick Tamland's female equivalent and the film just got worse and worse. The story line completely disintegrated and left me feeling as though the writers had just picked a load of buzz words from a hat in order to form the story of the totally structureless remaining hour. I loved the original Anchorman, but this sequel was trying way too hard to be funny and random, yet not hard enough to give us a story line to follow. I feel as though if more attention had been paid to giving the film a decent plot then the jokes might have seemed a little less forced and may have been funnier because they'd have been naturally occurring!
Having said all this, there were a few good laughs (although mostly early on in the film) but just not enough to justify a recommendation of Anchorman 2 to any of my friends - and certainly not enough to warrant paying the £11 it cost to go and watch it in the cinema! (Or buy the DVD upon it's release). Wait until it's on television!!
