This review is from: The Innovator's Dilemma: When New Technologies Cause Great Firms to Fail (Hardcover)
The book is too long. Most of the meat of the book is over with pretty quickly and the rest is just restatement. I personally found the book thought provoking because it confirmed my own judgement that large companies cannot easily provide the right infrastructure to nurture embryo product ideas that are counter to their mainstream products or services. Tragically, as with all such books it exhibits 20/20 hindsight and provides no meter for forward looking predictive behaviour. Clearly the opportunity for large companies is to imlement programmes that identify what Christensen calls 'disruptive technologies' and take a business angel view of them. Once the market is proven inside the incubator of a small business the parent can pull it back to reap benefits of scale economies.
