When I say unique, I know that the irony of calling something thus will not be lost on a number of reviewers; still. This is a book that will give you nightmares because of it's intensity of vision and imagination. The multi layered plot that encompasses the different tales within the book are exciting reading and never once did I tire of beginning a new tale. (Moneta will forever hold a fascination for me) It's true that some of the ideas border on the ridiculous, and this is illustrated in the priests tale, but isn't Science Fiction the one truly great genre where ideas can be explored in order for us as human beings, to face the moral ambiguities of our lives? This series is so good, that when I dreamed at night, I would always find myself in the universe of Simmons, either as an observer or as a character. This has happened before with Herbert and to a certain extent Bear. Frightening how somebody can get into your mind like that isn't it?
