I felt there was something lacking in Resistance 2 - I never really got involved with it and found it quite boring. However I took a chance on Resistance 3 and find myself completely hooked on the campaign. (I'm not big on online as nothing compares to Titan mode in BF2142.) Weapons are great (especially the gravity bomb - wish there were more of them lying around) - the story is engaging and doesn't feel by the numbers, the plight of the humans feels real. The biggest change is that there have been some convincing scary moments so far - something I found lacking in Resistance 2. The devolopers have latched on to the use of darkness and claustrophopia in places. The (far less cartoony)chimera move faster and have far more of a tendancy to suddenly get up close and personal. The graphics are very good (great) - not as good as Killzone 3 (stunning), but the character modelling is strong enough that you don't feel that anything is broken or missing. Voice acting is of a high standard and chapter 1 - Home - grounds you nicely in the reality a bit like Fallout 3 does. AI on normal is pretty good - not completely predictable, but not overly challenging - however that fits my limited time to play games perfectly. The environments are mostly large and fun to play in - the colour palette so far is pitched towards the grimy end of the spectrum but apparently that changes later on. Overall, my only reason for writing this review is that I am very pleasantly surprised and apart from some minor negatives (i.e. spawning on the wrong side of some short cutscenes) I would recommend this to anyone currently not sure.
