This is the first book I've read by Karl Drinkwater and I devoured it in one sitting. The rural setting was immaculately rendered and as I live in a similar location, this is high praise indeed. The author hooks us with the family dynamic particularly Callum, then flicks a switch. From that point it is a roller-coaster ride. The feeling of dread is pervasive and the pages virtually drip with the sticky red stuff. Following a vaguely familiar plot line for much of this short book, the author still manages to inject some authentic drama and there is a satisfying corkscrew to the guts at the end. We have no streetlights where I live and I'll be wary of any blue tinge to the sky for several nights to come..
