This review is from: The Spanish Game (Alec Milius 2) (Paperback)
My impression of the first Alec Milius book, A Spy By Nature (ASBN), was not great, and this book picks up the story a little later with Alec now working in Spain. A point should be made that this book discusses some of what occurred in its predecessor: what happened to the main protagonists, return of Saul, etc. So you might be better of reading ASBN first. If you do so you will see how much Charles Cumming has improved, after a slow start this books sets down to a real classy spy thriller. Alec appears over cautious but does he have good reason to think so? I felt the research was first class, and although another reviewer more knowledgeable of the Basque situation points out an occurrence that would never happen, I can say that I didn't spot it and even if I had I don't think it would have bothered me. An excellent read, highly recommended.
