This book should be subtitles >the 1001 Best Singles ever made IN MY OPINION Its real rock critic stuff theres many errors eg the cover verion of the Shadows' Apache is credited to Jorgen Ingmann intead of Jerry Lordan not even mentioning it was a cover- and some surprising ommissions if this is supposed to represent the most important music and artists. If the running order is how the author rates the records you don't find any mention of the Beatles till No 29! I didn't read all of the entries-the rap and punk and funk are of little interest to me though you have to question just why the Sex Pistols are included especially if you think of stuff like this as pigswill. No mention of Cliff Richard who is the U Ks biggest hitmaker.Or Joe Meek who created many innovations in pop music long before Phil Spector.(eg the No 1 single by the Tornadoes in 1962) Spector actually gets continual praise in this book but in reality the producer was NOT a writer and only managed to get his name alongside other peoples work as no more than a courtsey Rock critics you never expect to go overboard on high school pop and Marsh is consistent here-artistes like Brian Hyland,Tommy Roe and Gary Lewis are conspicious by their absence and the only time Fabian gets a mention its to insult him.
