scary, exciting, and profoundly rational,
This review is from: Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Survive (Paperback)
I have read and reread this book at least 20 times, and it is fantastic.
A massive tomb, split into readable chapters, each dealing with a separate civilisation, analysing how it thrived and died.
The scholarship and historical/ archeological detail are bracing, the analysis and verdict damning, but for me it was the human aspect which was so telling. Reading this reminded me of the first time I read Day of the Triffids, and gave me a similar tingle of horror. Don't bother buying a shotgun, we are but dust and soon everything will change.
