Customer Review

on 14 March 2014
This current series of JC is without doubt the absolute worst of the bunch. I hate even writing that as I have adored the series from the very start, but every element that made up the magic of the show has evaporated. The windmill, the duffle coat, Adam Klaus, and of course the single biggest missing link…. Maddie Magellan. I get that life moves on for everyone, that it would be unrealistic to think that fifteen years later Jonathan would still be working for a magician and living in the windmill. The show could have survived losing those two elements if the heart of the character had been retained. However he has turned into a middle aged frump, married to a woman with whom he has not one OUNCE of chemistry. You can't even see what brought these two together in the first place. What does he see in her. Why would she have picked him. Thats the biggest mystery of all.

The first two eps of this series were dismal, the third one certainly was far better, with a cracking mystery, great performances from Josie Lawrence and the wonderful June Whitfield, but for Creek to survive into the future, the horrendous Polly Creek has to be dispatched with immediately and Maddie Magellan needs to return to where she belongs. In the old days Maddie and Jonathan travelled all over the country in her battered station wagon solving mysteries. Now everything happens in the same village where they live, like Midsomer on valium. I hope David Renwick sees sense and writes Maddie Magellan back into this show and bring it back to life again.
