This is a delightful work. Entertaining, informative and clever - the author is clearly an extremely well-read person, and takes us on an often hilarious tour of some of the byways of the English language. The style, as someone has already noticed, is very 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' - but in this case its all true! I felt he was running out of ideas a bit towards the end - I actually already knew a few of the derivations in the later chapters - but this is carping a bit. Overall thoroughly entertaining and informative. Wish I'd bought the book, though, instead of the Audio book, as there's no indexing, and its really a work to dip into and refer back to when any of these subjects come up in conversation. Listening to it, the stream of information, though entertaining, is pretty relentless and you'll do well to actually remember more than 10% once you've finished listening. I bet he's already on the sequel, and i'm already looking forward to it. Much better suited to a printed volume than an audiobook, i felt.
