My very favorite cookbook,
This review is from: Moosewood Restaurant Simple Suppers (Hardcover)
We got this cookbook from a thoughtful friend as a gift, after my husband had cancer, to help us start our way into a healthier life. Although, I wouldn't say these recipes are healthy per se, they are however very yummy. Many of the recipes are not vegan, as they have cheese.
I use it several times a week for making dinner for our family of four (two very picky eaters between 5-7 years old). Most of the recipes are just very tasty. The book lives up very nicely to its title "Simple Suppers". What I like most about the Moosewood cookbooks (I have another one) is that they always include menu suggestions, dishes from their book that would go well with the chosen supper. I give it five stars, because although I own tons and tons of cookbooks, this is the book that has inspired me to actually use recipes, and menu plan. The recipes are tasty without being long and time consuming.
I don't know if this book is for everyone. But for a mother with a very busy life who would like to put delicious meals on the table, without too much head scratching, this is a great book. I really recommend it. In fact, the only reason I'm writing this review, is because I was going to purchase it as a gift for my brother, and saw that it didn't have a lot of good reviews.
One little drawback is for people in Europe who are not familiar with the measuring system used in the US. Ingredients are easily available in Europe though, no problems there.
Also, it is a shame that they don't have the nutritional information included like in the Moosewood Cooks at home, but honestly I don't use it that much anyway, so it really doesn't bother me much.
A word for Vegans: there are some vegan recipes in here, but many of the recipes rely on cheese.
